Nicely put, Chris. It’s all too easy to lose track of the issues here, behind a cynical facade of “they’re all the same”. From the European perspective you have a Hobson’s choice of either a centre right corporatist (Obama) or a far-right corporatist (Romney) who, from our viewpoint, looks hell-bent on rolling back civil rights advances and starting a major and potentially uncontrollable war in the Middle East. The whole world – especially the West – is affected by the US elections, so right now it really is the lesser of two evils.

I wonder, though, how in the medium to long-term you think the US might oust the corporatists and pave the way for that “progressive” candidate you want for 2016? At the moment the system looks *so* bound up with the corporacy that any non-corporatist won’t have a cat in hell’s chance.

Eloquently stated, Chris. I agree wholeheartedly, and have shared this with friends who have shared it with others. I hope a lot of people take the time to read this before going to the polls.

Very well said. The fact that are willing to say that Obama isn’t the greatest, but by far the better choice is right on. I’ve always supported Obama, if for nothing else that I think he wants to do the right thing. I hope that we can impress upon him that he can do better, and that the Democrats need to do better. I think getting the Republicans to move more towards the middle is too much to ask until they completely implode.

Succinctly and eloquently put. As an outside observer (I’m a Canadian) I’ve been stunned at the complete lack of anything approaching reasoned, fact-based debate on, well, ANYTHING. =P

Politics down there in the U.S. seems to have suddenly become the preserve of only the super-rich, and at times, the super-nutty. Sad, really. =(

Well said Chris. I see the lose of 400 years of progress in my view. The Christian Right reminds me to much of the people responsible for the Salem witch trials and the Spanish Inquisition. I see employees being treated like the miners who worked for Rockefeller. I see the continued violation of the Bill of Rights. I believe that the Democrats are more progressive and the GOP retrogressive. This view is really enough for me to cast my vote for Barack Obama again.
